Yellow Engelmann's Prickly Pear - Tall Panel

Engelmann's prickly pear is one of the most common large-growing prickly pear cactus species in the desert southwest USA and northern Mexico. The cactus is an important to desert ecology as food and shelter for a large number of different animals, especially pollinator insects. Engelmann's prickly pear is also prized as a landscape cactus in xeriscape gardens for its large size and profusion of large and bright yellow blossoms. This photograph was taken at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum in April, 2023.
